Cooling from surplus heat

APINA designs and manufactures turnkey low-temperature ammonia absorption modules that turn surplus thermal energy into useful cooling with minimal electricity consumption.

Automated negative-cold plants and bespoke projects for demanding industrial processes, in operation at clients such as Campofrío, COVAP, Coren or Guissona.

Heat to spare, cold in demand

Many industrial processes dissipate surplus heat into the environment —exhaust steam, hot cooling water, combustion gases— that is simply wasted. APINA's absorption modules take that heat (hot water, superheated water or steam, between 95 and 160 °C) and turn it into useful cooling, even at negative temperatures, with electricity consumption around 5 % of an equivalent compression system.

The result is a plant that produces cooling almost free from an electrical standpoint, cuts the bill and emissions, and removes the dependence on fluorinated refrigerants.

Campofrío: 3,000 kW of cooling from steam

The largest of these modules —3,000 kW at −12 °C— is fed by the 160 °C steam from the meat process itself. The heat that used to be lost now covers most of the cooling the plant needs: the case for absorption taken to its maximum scale.
